Sort Feed Extension Not Working? 6 Fixes in Order

The short answer: when the Sort Feed extension stops working, it’s almost always one of three things — the page needs a plain refresh, the extension needs an update after a platform redesign, or you’re on a page type the extension doesn’t support. The six fixes below are ordered by how often they solve it; start at the top and you’ll rarely need the bottom.
First, check you’re somewhere Sort Feed works
The panel only works on supported surfaces: profiles, search results, collections, saved lists and favorites on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Facebook. It has nothing to sort on your home timeline, in DMs, or on any other website — and the toolbar icon is easy to lose if it isn’t pinned (puzzle-piece menu → pin). If you’re on a creator’s profile with the icon pinned and still get nothing, keep going.
Fix 1 — Hard-refresh the tab
Press Ctrl+Shift+R (Cmd+Shift+R on Mac) on the Instagram or TikTok tab. Extensions inject their interface when the page loads; a tab that’s been open since before the extension installed or updated has stale code in it. This alone resolves a large share of “button disappeared” reports.
Fix 2 — Update the extension
Social platforms redesign their pages constantly, and a redesign can break any extension that reads the page. The developer ships repairs quickly — Sort Feed is on version 13.1 as of July 2026. Open chrome://extensions, switch on Developer mode, click “Update”, then reload the tab. If a platform changed yesterday, an update may already be waiting.
Fix 3 — Toggle it off and on
On the same chrome://extensions page, flip Sort Feed off, wait a beat, flip it on, and refresh your tab. This clears wedged state without touching your settings.
Fix 4 — Log in to the platform in this browser
Sort Feed reads the feed you can see. If Instagram or TikTok has silently logged you out (or you’re in a fresh profile or incognito window where you never logged in), there’s no feed to sort. Log in on the platform first, then refresh.
Fix 5 — Rule out extension conflicts
Ad blockers and other Instagram/TikTok helper extensions modify the same pages and can collide. Test in a clean state: open an incognito window, allow only Sort Feed there (chrome://extensions → Sort Feed → “Allow in Incognito”), and try again. If it works in incognito, disable your other extensions one at a time in the normal window until you find the collision.
Fix 6 — Reinstall from the official listing
Remove the extension, then reinstall it from the official Chrome Web Store listing. Your Pro subscription isn’t stored in the extension, so nothing is lost — see the license key guide if Pro doesn’t reactivate on its own.
